How can your Member of Parliament support British pork?
The British pig sector is currently in crisis due to a shortage of butchers in our abattoirs, as such pigs have been backing up on farms for several months. Many farmers have been left with no other option but to kill and dispose of perfectly healthy pigs in order to protect their welfare.
There are two key ways which we are asking Government to help – firstly with the provision of 12-month visas as a temporary solution and secondly by lowering the English requirement for skilled staff to come into the country, this is currently the same as a vet or doctor.

HOW YOU CAN SHOW YOUR SUPPORT
- Always look out for the Red Tractor, RSPCA Assured, the union flag or other logos that represent high quality, assured British pork.
- Make sure, wherever you can, that you try and buy British pork products, rather than imported EU pork.
- If in doubt, ask! If there is no clear indication of where your pork comes from, for example when you are in the local butchers or eating out or buying food to take out, ask where it comes from. And if it’s not British, ask if it can be next time!
- Encourage your family and friends, to do the same.
